Booklice Love Humid Areas:

Booklice is a common problem in humid areas, and Singapore is no exception. If you are unable to get rid of them, it becomes imperative to find a booklice pest control specialist in Singapore.

They Also Love Damp Conditions:

They find damp and moist conditions favourable for their growth. These bugs can come through any source, such as wood or any other stuff, and breed. Mould growing in wet areas becomes the food source of the booklice.

Superheated Steam Application

Booklice cannot survive in temperatures over 40°C, thus the superheated steam treatment is a highly efficient and non-toxic method to get rid of them. Our experts use superheated steam to destroy booklice and their eggs in all infected areas.

Residual Spray

Our residual spray delivers a pesticide that targets the booklice’s nervous system to the point of death, making it ideal for a fast knockdown treatment. This approach leaves a residue on surfaces and is effective for up to one month to eliminate any last remaining booklice.

Size: The size of the booklice can range between 1 to 6 mm.

Colour: You will find variable coloured species of booklice in your home.

Wings: Booklice have four wings and the front wings are usually larger than the hind wings. It depends on the species of booklice. Those booklice that live outside usually have wings, while the ones that invade home have small or no wings at all. So, you can find variations on this basis.

People can easily mistake between termites or white ants and booklice. Booklice have prominent eyes and neck to distinguish them from other pests.

Reproduction & Life Cycle

Usually, the female booklice lay eggs during spring and summer. These eggs go through stages of immaturity to grow into adults. Immature bugs are termed nymphs, and they have no wings.

Psocids breed by mating, with males delivering sperm or sperm packets directly into the female’s reproductive organs. Parthenogenetic reproduction, the formation of young from unfertilised eggs, is however widespread. Only females are produced by parthenogenetic species.

Are Booklice Harmful?

Do They Bite? Booklice do not harm humans or animals; they do not bite or sting anyone. They only grow at moist places and increase their population due to favourable conditions. The only problem or nuisance that they create is food spoilage, as they can invade stored food. So, if you spot booklice in your food items, you would need to call in a booklice pest specialist.

Do They Spread Diseases? They do not spread any type of diseases, however, they do create psychological discomfort and nuisance in one’s premise.

Do They Cause Structural Damage? Unlike Termites, they do not cause any structural damage to your home.

Thank you very much to the team of termite technicians, Vijay, jay and nzuri. my built in wardrobes are finally free from subterranean termites. Over the weeks, they came to check on the termites bait and to see if there are further signs of activities. They also did house inspections for termites and were very patient in answering my often repeated questions and provided insights into the types of termites, their characteristics and behaviour which I find very helpful. The sales team, Sheena and Ian are friendly and prompt in responding to queries and scheduling of visits. Overall, I would highly recommend eminent pest control.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We’re here to help.

There are indeed many DIY solutions out there that can be found online. However, unlike a professional, one might not be able to detect the root cause of the booklice infestation, and moreover, might not have an effective solution to ensure that infestation does not happen again. Lastly, every premise is unique, and at times there might not be a one-size-fits-all approach to your pest issue.

Booklice feed on mold, fungi, or any remnants found on decaying organic materials. They are commonly found in moist and warm places; in areas with poor ventilation.

Booklice sizes really depend on the type of species. Their sizes range from 1 to 7mm.

Booklice do not chew on human or animal flesh, thus they will not bite your occupants. The main issue with booklice is that they can cause disruption to your assets and can potentially cause food contamination. They are mainly a nuisance and if found on your leftover food, it could indicate that your food is old and spoilt.

If you manage to find them, you should start by checking areas that often left untouched, such as: your kitchen sink, plumbing areas, gutters, and walls. Check if your grout is missing, and if the areas that are getting mouldy have those booklice lying around. Afterward, start by removing any infected items, and proceed to add in dehumidifiers; aimed at reducing moisture. Start by using bleach to kill the mold and mildew growing in your areas, proceed to wipe off and booklice lying around.

Warranty is 3-6 months * t&c applies.
